In Love and Warcraft
Madhuri Shekar
City Lights Theater Company

Generously peppered with words such as “damage dealers,” “mage food,” “debuffs,” and “battle rez,” the script of Madhuri Shekar’s In Love and Warcraft might appear at first bluff as a near impossible challenge for non-gamers who have never pounded the keys of their PC while playing the video superstar game, “World of Warcraft.” But it only takes a couple of minutes of adjusting to some of the lingo and becoming absorbed in the brilliantly conceived, fast-paced, and truly engaging script soon to realize that we are not witnessing a war of the worlds, but an age-old battle of the sexes … or in other words, a hilarious and increasingly endearing romantic comedy.
City Lights Theater Company hits all the right buttons and scores big time in presenting Madhuri Shekar’s 2014-premiering In Love and Warcraft that has since gone viral in landing on stages all across the country (including a highly praised digital production in 2020 during COVID by the San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater MFA Acting Program).
